Create an Office
This is exercise in writing your own liturgy or Office. First write a list of what you'd like to see in it.
Are you looking for:
- Adoration?
- Confession?
- Thanksgiving?
- Intercession?
Are you looking for components such as:
- Reading of Sacred writings/psalms etc.?
- Hymns?
- Silence?
- Prayers (what kind)?
- Speech/song/music?
- What about the use of the senses?
- What about the use of movement?
- etc.
When you have produced your office, pray it.
You could produce a booklet that could be used at different points in the day and make use of external factors such as The News (springboard for intercession), BBC Radio 4’s Thought for the Day or similar (an aid to meditation), habits such as washing (symbolic of baptism - a fresh start/confession etc.). Jewish people have set prayers for every occasion of the day to help them to be more attentive to God's presence at a particular moment.
Angela Tilby created her Office while working as a busy BBC producer. It has been published by Arthur James, Berkhamsted (1998) and called The Little Office Book. |
